We divide our flooring types into the categories of BS8204 which are those used by FeRFA, the Resin Flooring Association. They generally relate to thickness, which is proportional to durability (and cost). This is your first choice.
| Type | Thickness | Typical Durability (yrs) |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Up to 150µ | 1-2 |
| 2 | 150µ to 300µ | 1-3 |
| 3 | 300µ to 1000µ (1mm) | 2-7 |
| 4 | >2mm | 2-5 |
| 5 | 2-3mm |
3-8 |
| 6 | >4mm | 5-12 |
| 7 | 4-6mm | 5-10 |
| 8 | >6mm | 10-12 |
Don’t get ‘hung up’ on the type of resin used – once they have cured (or hardened and dried!) they are all ‘plastics’.
The resin type is selected according to what you will do or drop on the floor and how quickly it is to be installed. We also need to take account of the construction of your floor, for example if there is an effective damp proof membrane under the slab, that sort of thing.
